Management Referrals
Encourage managers to support employees who are struggling with their physical or mental health with our management referrals service. We put managers at the heart of every occupational health referral to ensure our recommendations are fit for purpose.

Manager-friendly occupational health referrals
Managers are often the first to notice when someone is struggling, so make it easy for them to make an occupational health referral. By consulting with managers before and after the employee’s occupational health assessment, we include managers throughout the process.
This unique approach to management referrals ensures managers can input on what employees are struggling to do at work. This ensures our expert clinical team can provide actionable recommendations on how the manager can best support the employee.
Manager Referral Benefits
By empowering managers to support employees at the earliest opportunity, our occupational health manager referrals service delivers the following benefits.

Absence prevention
By making referral management easy, you can reduce sickness absence. As our research into the benefits of early intervention shows, 91% of employees referred while still in work are expected to be in work a month later. This compares to just 45% of those referred after 1-2 months absence.

Skills retention
With record numbers of employees now long-term sick, occupational health management referrals can help retain skilled employees. Most employees want to stay in work but are experiencing delays accessing support. Management referrals give employees rapid access to the support they need to manage health conditions to remain in work.

Inclusive workforce
One in four employees are living with multiple health conditions, ranging from cancer and heart disease to menopause. Many individuals feel like they have to struggle alone. Occupational health management referrals give managers the insights they need to support people to stay in work. This creates a more inclusive workforce.
Instead of just repeating what the employee said, PAM OH also consults with managers. This ensures any recommendations are balanced and fit for purpose. The useable recommendations are helping to reduce absence.

Our approach to occupational health management referrals
Our online referral management process is easy for managers to complete. It ensures managers know what information they need to input. This includes an absence history, information about the employee’s role and any support already provided. It also includes tips and support on making good management referrals.
Following the management referral, employees are provided with an occupational health assessment to identify any underlying health issues. This is carried out by an expert clinician to clarify the employee’s capacity to work. A manager-friendly online report is immediately provided to the manager, featuring clear, actionable advice.
By putting managers at the heart of our occupational health referral process, we can ensure recommendations are fit for purpose. We only suggest reasonable adjustments to the employee’s role or responsibilities that are practical for the business. This ensures managers know what they need to do to support employees.
As well as supporting managers, a management referral also provides employees with access to expert clinical advice. Employees are triaged into mental health or musculoskeletal (MSK) support depending on their condition. Then, given expert advice on how to manage their condition and follow-up treatment, if needed.
Our secure platform allows you to digitise your occupational health management referrals so you can generate powerful insights. We include Power BI analytics so you can see health trend data across your organisation. These insights can then be used to identify pockets of absence to drive your wellbeing strategy forward.
